The five musicians have known each other for a long time and played with each other in different formations.

Rudi Mahall (Foto) heavily influenced by the jazz of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, but he combines these idioms with freer playing styles. Rudi carried out several projects and published CDs with Aki Takase. Mahall participated to Alexander von Schlippenbach’s recording of the complete works of Thelonious Monk and he is a member of the Globe Unity Orchestra. Moreover, he performed with Conny Bauer, Lee Konitz, Barry Guy, Karl Berger, Paul Lovens, Sven-Åke Johansson, Radu Malfatti, Ed Schuller, Ray Anderson, Kenny Wheeler, Hannes Bauer and many others.

Tobias Delius has worked in Europe and overseas with among others Steve Lacy, Louis Moholo’s Viva-la-black, Bill Frisell, Mark Feldman, Trio Clusone, Misha Mengelberg, Ray Anderson. Delius can be heard in a variety of groups, including Available Jelly, Hammeriver, Sean Bergin’s MOB, ICP Orchestra, Chris Abelen Quintet, Joost Buis and his Famous Astronotes, Frank van Bommel Quartet and Curtis Clark.

Ulrich Steinmetzger said about trombonist Gerhard Gschlößl: «His music is credible because it comes with corners and edges, because it does not hide the dirt that is part of life». Gschlößl collaborated with Albert Mangelsdorff, Sam Rivers, Perry Robinson, Wayne Horvitz, Billy Hart, Aki Takase, Michael Mantler, Karl Berger, Jerry Bergonzi, Conny Bauer, Alexander von Schlippenbach, NDR-BigBand and many others.

Jan Roder started his career as a rock musician and lived longer periods in Brazil. In 1995 he came to Berlin, where he played tours and concerts with musicians such as Ulrich Gumpert, Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky, Manfred Schoof, Uschi Brüning, Joachim Kühn, Aki Takase, Gunter Hampel, Mircea Tiberian and Axel Dörner. Now he is involved in numerous projects: JR3, Die Dicken Finger, Die Enttäuschung, Ein Roder-Thewes, Griener-Roder-Thewes, Tama, Monks Casino, Mrs Conception, Silke Eberhard Trio, Brom, Kastanie Night, Finkwerkeverzeichnis.

Martial Frenzel always holds the strings in the best tradition of the bebop drummer and leads the bands in new directions through versatile and risky playing. Contrary to all clichés he is also works as a composer.
