We are excited to invite you to the Berlin screening of the documentary “Szabad Egyetem/ The Free University” at the beautiful P.A.N.D.A. Kulturplattform! The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers led by Marleen Bornat (CEU Graduate) and a reception.

Szabad Egyetem/ The Free University

Imagine waking up as an “enemy of the people.” This was the reality waiting for students and staff of Central European University (CEU) as a coordinated legal and media apparatus began to demonise and eventually criminalise the Hungarian-American institution in Budapest. Szabad Egyetem/ The Free University follows students of CEU as they struggle against their exile by an authoritarian government. In creating their “free university” in front of the Hungarian parliament, they attempt to reignite Hungarian civil society and show what is being lost in this backsliding democracy.
